Elsie Sonnenberg

Elsie Sonnenberg, 94, passed away peacefully on February 11, 2025, in Ephrata, WA., 12 days shy of her 95th birthday. Elsie was born in North Dakota to proud parents Samuel and Mary. She was the eighth of twelve children and loved living most of her life in Ephrata, WA. At a dance, she met the future love of her life, Elmer, when he was playing in a band. They were best friends for five years and married in 1949. It was a marriage that lasted 72 years. They were never very far apart. They had years of happiness, and enjoyed doing everything together. Activities included family, socializing, dancing, traveling to foreign countries, and trips with their motor home, she took great pride in her home and yard, and once won Yard of the Month Club. She and her husband owned Elmer's Shop Rite, in Ephrata, for 25 years. They were big supporters of the Food Bank, as well as the Boy Scouts of America. Elsie was known as a strong, kind, and caring person with a sprinkle of sass. She was a hard-working Mother who passed on strong values and an impeccable work ethic to her family. There is so much that can be said about a wonderful Mother, but there isn't enough time or paper in the world. She is survived by her much-loved children: daughter Marcy, and sons Clyde and Dean (Diane). She is also survived by her special grandchildren: Kimberly, and Marci, great-grandchildren Brady, Lexi, Reeve, and Elis, great-great granddaughter, Lainey, and siblings Wilma, Viola, and Gary along with nieces and nephews. Those who preceded her in death were her loving husband Elmer, her parents, eight siblings, one grandson, and nieces and nephews. In 2022, she moved to the Coolidge House Adult Family Home, in Ephrata, where she was loved, and well-cared for by her second family, Harold Geesey and Betty Taylor. The care she received there was a blessing not only to her but to the rest of her family. The family would also like to give a special thanks to Assured Hospice. This obituary only scratches the surface of the many things she has done and the lives she has touched. Her passing leaves behind much sadness. We love you Mom! A private memorial service for family will be held in the near future.
