Norma Ilene Burleson

Norma Ilene (Daggett) Burleson was born on January 30, 1935 in Twisp, WA and passed away on April 13, 2023 at Columbia Basin Hospital in Ephrata, WA. Norma was born to Albert and Edna Daggett. She was the oldest five siblings, Barbara, Patricia, Roger and Roy. The family moved several times and Norma attended schools in Wenatchee, Skykomish, Everett, and Renton. She graduated from Renton High School in 1954. Norma met her husband, Doyel during high school at a church dance. Doyel was in the Navy, stationed in Bremerton, WA and was medically discharged prior to their wedding. The couple married on June 19, 1954 and settled in the Renton area. Doyel worked for the railroad initially and eventually Boeing. He was a “company man” and stayed with Boeing until his retirement. Meanwhile, Norma was busy with their three children, Debora, Barry and Michael. Norma loved to travel. Doyel and Norma made numerous trips to Wyoming and Arkansas to visit Doyel’s family. Following Doyel’s death in 1993, Norma began her trips to Lake Havasu as a “snow bird.” She would “fly” down to spend time with her siblings Patricia, Roger and Roy as well as numerous cousins and friends. It was during the Havasu years that her significant other, Blackie Moser spent time traveling with Norma. Eventually the two would retire to Ephrata, WA. Norma’s son, Barry lived in Kona, Hawaii for several years and she loved going to visit! Besides the Big Island, Norma traveled to the islands of Oahu, Maui, and Kauai. Hawaii was her love! Her first trip to Hawaii however, was with Doyel and her parents (Albert and Edna). She didn’t want to return to Washington and tried to sabotage the return trip home! Norma also traveled to Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, and Canada. She loved “road trips” and has seen most of the western United States. Besides traveling, Norma enjoyed many other hobbies. Shopping and “Girl’s Weekends” were at the top of the list. Debora and Norma loved the weekends and also invited other family members and friends to go along. Other hobbies included crocheting, gardening, entertaining, reading, puzzles and taking care of her grandchildren…oh how she cherished the time with her grandchildren! Prior to moving to Monroe House Assisted Living in August 2022, Norma’s son Michael took a temporary transfer from the Everett Boeing Plant to the Moses Lake Boeing Plant, so he could help out with her care. Thankfully, Michael arrived right before the big COVID outbreak and was able to keep Norma COVID free and healthy. Norma was very spoiled by Michael! He is a wonderful chef and Norma loved the meals Michael prepared for her. They ate MANY meals together and EVERY Thursday they went grocery shopping and out to dinner. Norma is survived by three children, Debora (Ernie) Holt, Barry (Brenda) Burleson and Michael Burleson. She is also survived by siblings Barbara Arntson, Patricia Weeks, Roger Daggett and Roy Daggett (Becky). Norma was blessed with six grandchildren, Jason (Tina), Brandon (Andrea), Timothy, Angela, and Michael. She also received the gift of seven great-grandchildren, Rylee, Ryatt, Kellie, Kyelie, Peyton, Braelynn, and Jace. Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Doyel, parents, Albert and Edna Daggett, granddaughter, Lauren and significant other, Blackie Moser. A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 5, 2023 at Greenwood Memorial Cemetery in Renton, WA at 10:00 am.
