    Elaine Elizabeth Gladen

    June 4, 1932 - March 4, 2013

ELAINE ELIZABETH GLADEN Elaine Elizabeth Gladen, 80, of Ephrata, WA passed away on Monday, March 4, 2013. Elaine was born on June 4, 1932 in Davenport, WA to Ted and Ella Harms. She enjoyed growing up on the farm and spending time with her twin sister, Ellen. She shared stories of milking the cow and driving wheat truck and her fondest memories include ice skating on their pond and snuggling in a warm blanket in Grandpa’s horse-drawn sleigh. She also shared a few practical joke stories that she and Ellen would pull on boyfriends and teachers. Elaine graduated from Davenport High School in 1950. Elaine married Lawrence Schuh and moved to Ritzville and started her career as a dental assistant and then worked for the ESD. Her daughter Susan and son Ronald soon came to bless her life. In 1967 Elaine came to Ephrata where she enjoyed her job and coworkers at the Treasurer’s Office. Elaine was quite talented and in her free time she produced many beautiful arts and crafts, sewing projects, and baked goods. In 1980 Elaine married LeRoy Gladen. The two of them shared many good years together spending time gardening, fishing at Twin Lakes, “coaching up” Gonzaga, and visiting friends and family. After Elaine’s retirement in 1993 she was a member of the Retired State, County and Municipal Employees and she was a member and past President of Home and Community Educators. Elaine had a cheery enthusiasm for whatever she was involved in, whether it was making heart pillows for cancer patients or telephoning members with information. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all who knew her. Elaine is survived by her loving husband LeRoy Gladen; daughter, Susan Taxter; son Ronald (Roni) Schuh; LeRoy’s daughter, Linda Ohia, and grandchildren Clint(Ann)Taxter; Jamie(Caleb)Harms; Kaley, Brock and Cortney Schuh; Edmund Salm, Emeka, Grace, and Jenny Ohia; and great grandchildren Rachel, Cole, and Blake Taxter. She is also survived by her twin sister Ellen (Echo) Geissler. Memorial services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ephrata, WA at 3:00pm on Saturday, March 9, 2013.
