    Elwyn "Doc" Seymour Watson

    July 22, 1927 - February 26, 2017

Elwyn Seymour “Doc” Watson of Ephrata, age 89, crossed the finish line and entered into the presence of his Friend and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, February 26th. Doc leaves behind his best friend and wife of 67 years, Ruthie, as well as their three married children, six grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He was born in Centralia, Washington, on July 22nd, 1927. Doc was a Navy WWII Veteran; after obtaining permission to join because of his young age, he waited all summer for the call and landed in boot camp the day the war ended. His sea duty was at the Bremerton ferry. Doc graduated from Seattle Pacific College in 1950, where he met, courted, and married Ruthie DeYoung. They agreed their marriage should be founded on the Lord Jesus Christ and marked by joy. They also believed that a well-timed sense of humor was one of life’s essentials. Doc worked as a logger before taking a “temporary” job with Consolidated Freightways in Wenatchee and retired from CF 31 years later. His retirement years were filled with Ruthie, their friends from church, children, and grandchildren. Doc was frequently on the lookout for good firewood (always on the uphill side) and opportunities to serve others. As his health declined, he and his family marveled at the Moses Lake Hospice team’s care and expertise shown them. A celebration of God’s grace and Doc’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 4th at Our Redeemer Presbyterian Church in Ephrata. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages your consideration of a gift (check made out) to “Samaritan’s Purse – Shoebox” and sent to the Ephrata Four Square Church or given at the service on Saturday. Please express your thoughts and memories for the family at www.nicolesfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are under the care of Nicoles Funeral Home of Ephrata, Wash.
