    Faye E Mayer

    September 9, 1917 - February 13, 2012

    Faye Evelyn Stuhlmiller Mayer, 94, passed away Monday, February 13, 2012 at The Coolidge House in Ephrata, Washington. She was born on September 9, 1917 at Yakima, Washington, the daughter of Adolph and Christina (Kehrer) Stuhlmiller, German immigrants who came to the Quincy, Washington area via Russia in early 1900. Faye was raised in Marlin and Plain, Washington until 1932 when she moved to Ephrata to live with her sister. On September 12, 1934 Faye married Leo Eugene Mayer at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Ephrata. The couple lived on the Mayer homestead 12 miles northwest of Ephrata on Sagebrush Flats. They were in a working partnership with his parents and their son, Richard, on the family dryland wheat farm. They lived on Sagebrush Flats until 1974 when they retired and moved to town. Faye was a very social person and was involved in many activities. Along with her husband, Leo, she was a charter/longtime member of several organizations – Two Springs Grange, Wheatland Whirlers, Columbia Basin Carriage Club, lifetime member of the Grant County Historial Society, Stitch and Chatter club, Ephrata Garden Club, Ephrata Senior Center, Grant Elementary School HOSTS, Wannigan Trailer Club, Ephrata Women of the Moose, National Barbed Wire Collectors, and Homemakers Club. Faye was an avid traveler and journeyed to numerous destinations including Australia, the Great China Wall, Galápagos Islands and others. She was a faithful member of the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and was active in the Women’s Altar Society, Legion of Mary, the Young Ladies Institute and St. Rose of Lima Catholic School. Faye is survived by her children, Richard (Beverly) Mayer of Ephrata, Delores (Joseph) Silvay, of Ritzville, Wash., Robert (Karen) Mayer of Ephrata, Raymond (Loretta) Mayer of Ephrata, and Linda Gribble of California; 14 grandchildren – Brian (Nancy) Mayer, Dave (Carol) Mayer, Lisa (Cliff) Sears, Monica Bergman, Debra (Derek) Pohle, Theresa (Darrell) Lembcke, Diana (Jeff) Ward, Laura Mayer, Angela Mayer, Robert Leo (Katie) Mayer, Lindsay Mayer, Mitchel Mayer, Dan Mayer and Brandi Gribble; 26 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo; brother, Albert Stuhlmiller; and sister, Clara McCarty. Faye was the last of her generation in the Stuhlmiller/Mayer families and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Rosary will be said Friday, Feb. 17, 2012, at 7 p.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 323 D St. SW, Ephrata. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, Feb. 18, 2012, at 11 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima with burial to follow at the Ephrata City Cemetery. A lunch reception will immediately follow at St. Rose of Lima School. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Rose of Lima Catholic School, 520 Nat Washington Way, Ephrata, WA 98823
