Iris I. Hubbard, longtime Moses Lake/Ephrata resident, passed away in Ephrata on Friday June 3rd, 2016 Born November 21st, 1928 in Mt.Vernon, S.D. to Frank G. Lorang and Reta M.(Cherry)Lorang. Mrs. Hubbard graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in May, 1946. On Oct. 20, 1946 she married George E. Hubbard in Mt. Vernon, S.D. They farmed and raised children in Mt. Vernon until 1962 when they moved to Plankinton, S.D. They lived in Plankinton where Iris worked at a reform school for teens for several years. They then sold their belongins, packed up their ten children and moved to Moses Lake, Washington in 1966, where George had taken a job at U & I Sugar Plant. Iris was a full time homemaker and mother in addition to being the bookkeeper and biller for the Seattle PI and USA Today dealership she and George owned for 35 years. Iris could often be found in the kitchen, where she cooked meals, canned food during the summer months and made bread every week for the family, which had grown to 12 children. If she was not in the kitchen you could find her in the office, working on the books. Iris loved to flower garden and the yard was always beautiful with her many flowers and roses. She also loved to play bingo and was a familiar face at the bingo hall. Mrs. Hubbard was a member of the St Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Ephrata, a longtime member of the VFW, as well as the Moses Lake and Ephrata Senior Centers. Mrs. Hubbard is survived by six sons: David L. Hubbard (Ginger), Rodney G. Hubbard, Richard D. Hubbard (Chris), Timothy R. Hubbard (Monica), Dennis M. Hubbard (Lois) and Duane M. Hubbard (Bonnie); six daughters: Cherrill I. Hockett (Tom), Deborah J. Penhallurick (Jon), Cynthia M. Beck (John), Teresa M. Colley (Greg), Janine C. Hubbard and Christine "Ann" Carver (Kenny). She also had 36 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren at the time of her passing. She was preceded in death by her husband George E. Hubbard; grand-daughter Rachel Hubbard and grand-son Eddie Hubbard. She was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandma and friend. Rest easy in God's care. There will be a viewing at Nicole’s Funeral Home from 5-7 p.m. Monday evening, June 6th and a funeral mass at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 7th followed by interment at Ephrata Cemetery. Arrangements are in care of Nicole’s Funeral Home.
