December 28, 1939 - February 20, 2021
Lester Earl Mullings Sr., 81, of Quincy, Washington, passed away peacefully with his family by his side, Saturday morning, February 20, 2021. Lester was born on December 28, 1939 in Buckeye, Arizona. He was the second oldest son of Oscar and Mildred Mullings. Lester attended Big Bend Community College to work as a diesel mechanic, earning him a spot on the president’s list. He then successfully had the opportunity to explore many different jobs with a few being Columbia Basin Water Irrigation, Purdy Company, and getting certified as a TV repair technician at Homestead Electric. However, through Lester’s creative mind he found the love of automobiles where he continued to work on any vehicle he could get his hands on. Whether it was a car or pickup, Lester simply just loved fixing what was broken. Through all the hours spent working on automobiles, Lester’s mind never stopped running with creativity, he created many inventions for the family to enjoy and for him it was an art he truly loved doing. Honoring his bravery and sacrifice to our country he served in the Air Force from 1961 – 1969. He became a sergeant in rank and earned the Vietnam Service Medal and Defense Meritorious Medal. During those times he became a jet aircraft mechanic and through the experience and knowledge he gained, he was able to listen to an engine and determine what was wrong with it. He would do this with cars or aircraft, as long as it had an engine, Lester was determined to fix it. Anyone who knows the Mullings family, knows our family isn’t small. He started his own family with his first wife, Patricia Schofield, having their first son Lester Mullings Jr., followed by Tracy Mullings and their last son together, Raymond Mullings. Lester married again to his second wife, Jan LaPalm who had her son Ronnie Richards, which was Lester’s step son. Lester married one last time to this third wife and lifelong special friend Karen Mullings, they had their first and only daughter together, Lanell Mullings (Warren). With Karen and Lester it was quite a unique situation with their family, some would say the Brady Bunch was the best description of it. Karen brought in her kids; Larry Dana, Gary Dana, Linda Dana, Barbra Dana (Kapalo) and David Dana. Becoming Lester’s step kids, however there were no step kids with Lester, they were simply just his kids. With all those kids there become something even greater; 20 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Raised by his loving parents, Oscar and Mildred he had 9 siblings. Oldest to youngest: Roy, Richard, Marvin, Christine, Veron, Elsie (Ogden), Irene (Cenell), Jerry, and the youngest being Nancy (Brewer). Lester is now with his family and friends up in Heaven, preceded in death by his parents, sister Christine, his sister-in-law Lynn and Sandra Mullings, his brother-in-law Bob Crain and Dwaine Ogden, step daughter Linda Dana (Bashaw) and step son Gary Dana. Lester wasn’t a materialistic person, he loved the simple things life had to offer, he was an outdoorsy cowboy at heart. He loved to go hunting, fishing, camping, and riding horseback with his family and friends. Lester’s children would like to share that they didn’t just lose their dad, they lost their best friend who they miss endlessly. His death has greatly impacted so many lives from his smile lighting up the room to his heart of gold that shined through and through. We would like to thank everyone who has been supportive and helped during these times. The ceremony will be held at The Bread Of Life Church on Saturday March 13 at 1:00 pm, followed by the burial. We would like to invite any family or friends to come down at this time to lay Lester to rest and remember the great days we had with him. Please express your thoughts and memories for the family at www.nicolesfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are under the care of Nicoles Funeral Home of Ephrata.
