July 19, 1931 - January 8, 2019
Raymond Monroe Williams, 87 of Ephrata, died peacefully at home with his beloved wife at his side on January 8, 2019. Ray was the second child born to Rufus M. and Ella Williams in Thomasville, NC. Little did his parents know what a “southern gentleman” he would become. Ray learned to work hard at an early age and took pride in doing his jobs well. Because he was a kind, warm, loving and giving person he shared what he had. After graduation from Thomasville High School he joined the US Air Force that led him to be stationed at Larson Air Force Base at Moses Lake, WA. He could not believe the contrast between the Columbia Basin and his home state of North Carolina. Ray grew to love the area around Ephrata and Eastern WA as he loved the outdoors, participated and enjoyed many outdoor sports. After being honorably discharged from the military, he was hired and retired from the US Postal Service after working 32 years. Ray met and married Aida Moreno in April 1992 and they were happily married for almost 27 years. They were true partners in life as they enjoyed doing domestic things around their home, traveling the country, and….yes, even shopping together. Ray continued working after retirement by helping at a floral shop delivering flowers, helping at a tv and appliance store and finally at Qualls Ag Lab. Ray really enjoyed working at QAL and developed a special bond with all there. Ray was an active member of Jehovah’s Witnesses and enjoyed sharing his Bible knowledge and faith with others. He is survived by his loving wife Aida; sisters Joyce (Ed) Richardson of Gibsonville, NC; Betty (Larry) Link of Lexington, NC; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by Carolyn, his first wife; his parents; sister Colleen and her husband, Jim Curry. Ray will always be remembered for his kindness, generosity, happy disposition; humor, his southern accent and phrases. A memorial service will be held at the Ephrata Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses 902, 2nd Avenue SE Ephrata, WA on Saturday, February 2, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. Friends are welcome.
