Florence Trula Friend

Florence Trula Friend Born May 2, 1937, in Snoqualmie, WA to Henry and Trula Hoffman. Florence and her family moved to Soap Lake, WA around 1950. Florence accepted the Lord as her personal Savior at a Revival Meeting at the Community Church of Soap Lake. Soon after she accepted Christ, she met LeRoy Friend from Wilson Creek. They also began attending the newly started First Baptist Church of Soap Lake. Florence and LeRoy were the first couple married in that church in 1953. Both were involved with ministry at the church their entire married life. LeRoy and Florence worked in many ministries of the church. Florence taught Sunday School, Childrens Church, Puppet Ministry, Vacation Bible School, Women’s Bible Studies, cooked at the church camp, and Child Evangelism outreach in the schools. Her life verse was Philippians 1:21 – “For me to live is Christ and to die is gain.” In addition to being a homemaker, Florence worked several part-time jobs, her favorite job was for the Soap Lake Library as Head Librarian for over 13 years. At the library she organized story-time, puppet shows, art exhibits and many other community programs. Florence is survived by her five children - Bill Friend and wife Machele of Quincy, WA. Don Friend and wife Cherie of Lacey, WA. Tom Friend and wife Liza of Soap Lake, WA. John Friend and wife Mary of Ephrata, WA. Ruth Franklin and husband Joe of Aurora, OR. 17 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. Two brothers Henry Hoffman and wife Arla of Gig Harbor, WA. David Hoffman of Soap Lake, WA. Sister-in-Law Pat Friend of Moses Lake, WA and Sister-in-Law Claudia Knauft and husband Larry of Spokane Valley, WA. She is also survived by many nephews and nieces. Florence was preceded in death by her husband LeRoy, parents Henry and Trula Hoffman, Leroy’s parents Lester and Edith Friend, sister-in-law Linda Hoffman and brother-in-law James Friend and brother-in-law Kenneth Friend. “Lord and Savior, Christ Divine, Reign within this heart of mine, may my witness ever be always only, Lord for Thee” – Brandt A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Soap Lake - Friday, August 18th at 11am.
